Why India-hosted Tally and websites feel faster for local teams

· KC Cloud

A cheap VPS in another continent looks fine on a speed-test screenshot. It feels different when five people in Baddi or Pune open Tally at 10:30 AM and every click waits on a round trip across the ocean.

Latency is not marketing

Remote desktop and Tally company locks are chatty. Each voucher, report, and lock check pays the distance to the server. India-hosted boxes cut that delay for offices that actually sit in India. A brochure site can hide some of this behind a CDN; a live accounting session cannot. That is why Tally on Cloud and a local dedicated or VPS choice should start with “where do the users sit?”, not only CPU count.

Books vs a brochure site

Website hosting can live farther away if most visitors are mixed and you cache static pages. Company data, payroll exports, and enquiry databases that your staff use all day belong closer to the desk. If you already queue on company lock, adding 80–150 ms of extra latency makes GST week feel broken even when the hardware is fine — size seats separately; see concurrent users.

When overseas still makes sense

A marketing site aimed at US buyers, a SaaS API whose customers are already on that cloud, or a failover copy can sit abroad. Do not mix that with the only copy of Tally data. Keep restore-tested backups in a second place either way. If logins feel slow, check status before you assume the internet at the factory is the whole story.
