Website hosting for Indian businesses — what actually matters
A company site is not a hobby page. Buyers, vendors, and auditors land on it for GST details, catalogues, and enquiry forms. Website hosting should keep that online, fast enough on Indian mobile networks, and easy to renew — without you becoming a full-time sysadmin.
Match the stack to the site you have
Static HTML or a light PHP brochure site fits shared or managed web hosting. A custom app, heavy CMS plugins, or cron-heavy backends often need VPS or dedicated. Buying “unlimited” shared hosting for a noisy app usually ends in throttling, not savings.
Uptime and a reachable support desk
Marketing numbers matter less than what happens at 9 AM when the site is down. Prefer a host that answers tickets in your timezone, can restore from backup, and does not leave DNS or SSL half-finished after go-live. Our status page habit is the same idea: one clear signal when something is wrong.
SSL, domain, and mail on one plan
HTTPS should ship with the site — not as a weekend project. Point the domain correctly, force HTTPS, and keep business mail on the same brand domain so customers trust both the site and the inbox. See our notes on SSL and domains & DNS.
Backups you can actually restore
Ask where backups live, how far back they go, and who runs a restore test. File-only copies without the database (or vice versa) are not a recovery plan. Schedule at least one restore drill after major content changes.
When shared hosting is enough
- Company brochure, product pages, enquiry forms
- Modest traffic, no heavy custom apps
- You want SSL, backups, and renewals handled
If you publish apps to devices or run multi-user business software, look at app hosting or server plans instead of stretching a shared account.
